Bank of Bird in Hand
Main Branch Office

Bird in Hand, PA

Brand new banks do not pop up very often in Pennsylvania. When a group of folks in Lancaster County decided to start a brand new bank, they needed a building to serve as their main branch and home office. They had a building — actually it was a house — in a very desirable location. They hired us to design the necessary alterations to the structure.

Making a house into an office is always a challenge. Houses do not always function very well for commercial uses. The spaces are small, they usually do not meet commercial building codes or accessibility requirements, and project the image of “home” and not “business”. That was our quandary — How can we make this house into a bank and have it look like a professional place of business while maintaining the scale and character?

All the normal bank things are squeezed into this structure — entrance vestibule, teller counters, drive up teller window, ATM machine and night deposit box. Plus, the entire structure was brought up to current building and accessibility standards.

B&D Builders handled the general construction responsibilities on this project. Lynn Godshall of GCI Design Inc. assisted us with interior finishes and furniture selections.
